What counts as a dental emergency

If you're unsure, call us anyway. Reception is used to these questions and will tell you what to do next.

Severe toothache

Throbbing or constant pain, pain when biting, or pain that wakes you at night.

Swelling or abscess

Facial or gum swelling, a bad taste, or a raised bump near a tooth.

Broken or chipped tooth

A fractured tooth, a lost crown, or a sharp edge cutting your tongue or cheek.

Lost filling or crown

Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet foods after a restoration comes away.

Knocked-out tooth

Keep the tooth moist in milk, avoid touching the root, and call us straight away.

Bleeding or trauma

Injury to teeth, gums or lips after a fall, sport or an accident.

How it works

From your call to pain relief

  1. 1

Call the practice and describe your symptoms to our reception team.

  2. 2

We'll assess how urgent it is and offer you the earliest suitable appointment.

  3. 3

At the visit we relieve the pain first, then explain your options and costs.

  4. 4

You leave with a clear plan for any follow-up treatment needed.

While you wait

  • Rinse gently with warm salty water if your gum is sore.
  • Avoid very hot, cold, hard or sugary foods on the affected side.
  • Try not to chew on the affected side until you've been seen.
  • Call us and describe your symptoms. Our team will advise you.

Don't wait for it to get worse

Dental pain rarely settles on its own. One phone call is usually all it takes to get seen.
